| Grandpa Boone |
I had just been thinking about my Grandpa Boone. He died about 40 years ago on December 7th. I began to reflect on how he impacted my life and the lives of our family.
My grandpa was born and raised in the Hill Country of Texas. He married my grandmother in the early part of the 1900's. He made a decision as a young man to preach the gospel and be a pastor. This was no easy task... During this time, the Depression was going on and he had a young family to support. He continued to pastor until he was in his 60's. After that he would fill in for pastors when they were unable to preach.
My grandpa never met a stranger. He loved talking to people and sharing about the Lord. He was a soul winner. In fact, he led my mom's parents and all her family to the Lord.
One thing that I treasure dearly is the letter he wrote to me after I was born. In the letter he spoke a blessing over my life. I am for ever grateful for my grandpa's wisdom in speaking a blessing over me.
My grandfather used to take me with him to run errands. (I suspect I was driving my mother crazy with all my questions and talking.) I remember the smell of Doublemint Chewing Gum permeating in his car. He would talk to me and tell me his opinion of what was going on in the world. I can recall the time when soft drink companies started selling soft drinks in a can. My grandfather was upset that it would tempt people to drink beer. I also fondly remember him signaling when he would see a curve approaching. He also taught me how to fish. I caught my first fish with him watching on...
The thing I miss is spending time with Grandpa Boone. It didn't matter what we did. I just loved being in his presence. I appreciate all that he did for me and imparted to me. Today, I asked Jesus to give my grandpa a hug for me and to tell him I am grateful for the heritage he gave me. My grandpa died doing what he loved best, sharing Jesus with people.
What are you depositing in the lives of those close to you? What has been deposited in your life?
Grandchildren are the crowning glory of the aged;parents are the pride of their children.
Proverbs 17:6 (New Living Translation)
OK... I miss my grandfather! You made me sad! It's ok. Dedad Rocked! He made the best beef stew! He died with the recipe. I have been trying to duplicate that recipe for about 20 years!
ReplyDeleteHe used to tell me he used a dirty wash rag. Well, I am not gonna try that no matter how good his beef stew was!
God bless!
